the 2006 sliding pillar rally: the Welsh Marches

2-5 June, 2006, Shropshire, United Kingdom

The area we visited were the Welsh Marches, the border lands between England and Wales, and in particular in the county of Shropshire a town called Church Stretton. Situated amid two ranges of hills, Wenlock Edge and Longmynd.

Continuing our theme of hotels with a view we stayed at The Longmynd Hotel, a family run hotel in the Regency style.

In a fantastic scenery along Wenlock Edge to Ironbridge, the home of the industrial revolution in the UK, and the site of the worlds first bridge constructed of iron, built in 1779, and a trip to Ludlow Castle, with plenty of time to explore this historic market town, with its black & white timber buildings and Michelin 3-star restaurant! A drive along one of the roads that always features in car magazines’ best driving roads in the country, from Clun into Wales, and a visit to Croft Castle.
